VATA

VATA

As previously mentioned Ayurveda is in vogue, wait a minute, didn't read before ? Then first check out my article on the ' Tridoshas ' in order to get a better understanding of the prominent Dosha named ' Vata '. So, without any further delay, presenting the chief dosha, the Vata. Maybe I am so engrossed writing this,I could genuinely sense a crescendo of shrieks building up! Vata,as the name suggests,is formulated from the wind as well as the sky element or the Vayu and Aakasha Mahabhuta. While traversing the Tridoshas, it is contemplated that Vata always supersedes the other two doshas. The reason being that Vata is responsible for mobility or Gati, whereas the other doshas are not capable of movement due to which the other doshas rely solely upon the Vata for locomotion. Secondly,Vata is fleet-footed because of which it is the root cause of precipitous and hazardous disorders, that being the case,Vata is the underlying fons et origo of around 80 lone ailments. Therefore, one must strive to attain a balanced Vata or Prakrut Vata.

Vata means movement or Gati and Gati means wisdom (Gyaan), portability (Gaman) and reception (Prapti). Thus, the medium through which one is able to receive knowledge and movement is Vata. All the activities or Cheshta performed by the body are attributed to the Vata

In fact, the life of an individual is also under the control of Vata

  • LOCATION (Sthana)-

Vata is primarily located beneath the umbilicus or the Naabhi. The areas where Vata resides is the urinary bladder (Vasti), caecum (Pureeshadhaan), the lumbar region (Kati),the shank or the part of the lower limb which extends from the knee to the ankle (Jangha), the feet (Paad),the bones (Asthi),the pelvis (Shroni), the anal canal (Guda), the auditory canal (Shrotra), the skin (Twacha), the bone marrow (Majja) and the seat or the crucial place of the Vata is the large intestine or the Pakwashaya

  • FEATURES (Guna) -

Vata is dry (ruksha), cold(sheeta), light (laghu), minute (sukshma), mobile (chala) or fickle (chanchal, asthira), hard (daarun), rough (khar), unsullied or the ability to curb stickiness (vishada).

It acts as a catalyst by accelerating the property of others (Yogavahi), as mentioned above it is fast paced (Aashukari) and involves Raja guna presidingly.

  • FUNCTIONS (Karma)-

All the voluntary and involuntary activities or Cheshta performed in the body are governed by the Vata such as excitement, breathing, the tendency to work, proper circulation of body fluids, appropriate excretion and much more !

Vata takes charge of the body (Tantra) and all the organs (Yantra) present in it. It holds sway over the mind and guides it into righteous deeds. It connects the soul, the mind and the sense organs paving way to sensations. It directs the sense organs towards its respective senses.

Vata holds the Dhatus at their particular places. It also enhances the digestive fire, destroys the sliminess present in the body, helps in the development of the embryo and compliance of the life span.

By putting two and two together, conciliated Vata leads to augmented life span, strength and is the basis of the condition of the body of a person as it strikes an accurate balance between the Doshas, Dhatus and the digestive fire (Agni) of the body !
