TRIDOSHAS

TRIDOSHAS

Well,no debate, rather no justification required that Ayurveda is in vogue! Going herbal, connecting with mother Nature, healing the healthy way is the new fad! You might have even experienced instances wherein you'd be suggested Ayurvedic medicines, treatments or easy remedies or you would be trying Ayurvedic creams and lotions to nourish your delicate skin and must mention, the miraculous role played by Ayurveda during the Covid-19 pandemic through its elixir - equivalent decoctions or 'Kaadha' as well as immunity boosting herbal medications, such as Giloy Ghanvati, AYUSH-64 and many more!

Also, since Ayurveda deals with beneficial,non-beneficial life span aka Hitakara aayu and Ahitakar Aayu , happiness yielding life span and vice versa aka Sukh aayu and Dukh aayu, the span of life and ways to improve the same; here's a brief description of the pillars upon which the foundation of Ayurveda stands strong and sturdy. These pillars are known as 'Tridoshas'.

Wondering why they are regarded as the pillars, well they are mentioned so by Honorable Acharyas as 'Tristhuna'  which is made up of 'Tri' denoting three and 'Sthuna' meaning pillar. When one of the pillars of the house falls weak, there's a possibility of destruction of the house,in the same manner, when one of the Doshas malfunction,it could lead to devastation of the body. These three pillars or the 'Doshas' are Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

These are called Doshas of the body. When present in conciliated form in the body, they promote growth, development, good health and well-being of the individual; however when vitiated, they contaminate the latter giving rise to disorders or Vyadhi. Therefore due to their property of polluting the Dhatus, they are termed as Doshas

FUNCTIONS-

  • The food we consume post digestion converts into nutritious form or Ahara rasa and excretory waste or Mala. This Ahara rasa fulfills the metabolic requirements of tissues of the body while the excretory substances are expelled out. These functions are regulated by the Doshas

  • These Doshas contain our body and also play a vital role during its production.

  • These Doshas fabricate the life processes with different works assigned and different areas of residence and functioning.

  • The Moon as mentioned in sacred texts, through its power of creation; the Sun through its assimilating power and the Wind through its diffusing potency holds the entire Universe together. In the similar way,Kapha with its anabolic functions,Pitta with its catabolic functions and Vata through its nervous and hormonal functions synchronize the body systems.

  • They control all bodily functions from birth to death.

  • These Doshas are also accountable for the formation of Prakriti or basically the nature of an individual.

  • The level of aggravation of respective Doshas decides whether the disease is curable or incurable.

Hence, the knowledge of Doshas is extremely important to ensure proper wellness and health, assessing one's respective Prakriti and curing disorders through identifying which of the Doshas is vitiated.
